Lubricants Unit Conversions Suite

Practical conversion tools for lubricant industry mass, volume, density, package units, barrels, gallons, liters, metric tons, and pounds.

Important: Mass-to-volume conversions for lubricants require density. Use actual product density when available. If you choose the assumed typical lubricating-oil density, the results are directional estimates only.
For full assumptions and limitations, see the Comprehensive Tool Disclaimer →

Mass ↔ Volume Converter

Purpose:
Convert between mass and volume units commonly used in lubricant purchasing, blending, inventory, and logistics.

When to Use:
Use this when converting metric tons to gallons, gallons to pounds, pounds to liters, or similar lubricant business conversions.

How to Use:
Enter the amount, select the starting unit, and choose a density basis. Use actual density when available.

Bulk Volume Converter

Purpose:
Convert between common bulk volume measures used in base oils, additives, finished lubricants, storage, and logistics.

When to Use:
Use this when converting gallons, liters, cubic meters, and 42-gallon barrels.

How to Use:
Enter the amount and select the starting volume unit.

Package Unit Converter

Purpose:
Convert common packaged lubricant units into gallons and liters.

When to Use:
Use this when estimating total gallons from drums, totes, pails, cases, or other common package formats.

How to Use:
Enter the package quantity and select the package type.

Density / Specific Gravity Converter

Purpose:
Convert lubricant density between kg/L, specific gravity, lb/gal, and kg/m³.

When to Use:
Use this when product data sheets, SDS documents, lab reports, or supplier documents use different density units.

How to Use:
Enter density in kg/L. The tool converts it into the other common units.

Quick Common Conversions

Purpose:
Provide quick access to common lubricant business conversions without changing multiple settings.

When to Use:
Use this for quick estimates in articles, emails, purchasing discussions, inventory reviews, or customer conversations.

How to Use:
Enter a value and choose a common conversion. For mass-to-volume estimates, the tool uses the selected density basis.
Density Footnote: If “typical lubricating oil density” is selected, this tool uses an assumed density of 0.87 kg/L, approximately 7.26 lb/gal. Actual lubricant density varies by product type, base oil, additive treat rate, temperature, and formulation. For transaction, inventory, blending, regulatory, or custody-transfer purposes, use actual product density from the supplier, SDS, product data sheet, or laboratory measurement.
