Honda Racing Corporation Unveils Formula R Engine Oil at 2025 SEMA Show

Honda Racing Corporation USA made headlines at the 2025 SEMA Show with the debut of Formula R, its first consumer engine oil line designed to bring racetrack innovation to everyday driving.

Developed in collaboration with Phillips 66 Lubricants—Honda’s trusted technology partner for more than 15 years and the official supplier for the championship-winning Acura ARX-06 GTP race cars—Formula R is engineered to deliver race-proven performance for Honda and Acura owners.

The fully synthetic lubricant is built for extreme conditions, offering superior thermal stability, wear protection, and optimized performance for turbocharged engines. The lineup will be available in six viscosity grades—0W-16, 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30—to serve a wide range of Honda and Acura models. Notably, the 0W-40 formulation is directly derived from the oil used in the IMSA Civic Type R TCR race car.

Meeting or exceeding API SP and ILSAC GF-7A standards, Formula R is fully compatible with Honda and Acura service programs. According to Jon Ikeda, senior vice president of HRC US, “We’ve seen firsthand Phillips 66’s commitment to excellence in our ARX-06 GTP IMSA race car. That trust made them the ideal partner to bring championship-grade performance to our customers.”

Set to arrive at Honda and Acura dealerships nationwide in spring 2026, Formula R will be especially recommended for high-performance vehicles such as the Civic Type R and Integra Type S.

The launch underscores HRC US’s ongoing commitment to blending its motorsport heritage with consumer innovation, offering enthusiasts access to the same technology trusted in professional competition.

For lubricant marketers and jobbers, the introduction of Formula R also represents a new OEM-linked opportunity in the premium synthetic category. With Phillips 66 Lubricants behind the formulation and Honda’s dealer network driving consumer visibility, Formula R could create aftermarket demand beyond dealership service bays—particularly among performance-minded Honda and Acura owners who value brand authenticity and race-derived engineering.
