David Weber Oil Expands its Operations via a Merger with Miles Petroleum

David Weber Oil Co., of Carlstadt, NJ, the manufacturer, and marketer of the Gibraltar brand of premium lubricants, merged operations with Miles Petroleum Company, Inc. of Farmingdale, NY. Both companies are among the oldest blenders and suppliers of lubricants in the US.

David Weber started in the lubricants business in 1927, working alongside his brothers and his father, Abraham Weber, at The Weber Oil Company located in Harlem, New York City. At the time, Jack Stern, the future founder of Miles Petroleum was also a partner at The Weber Oil Company. In 1937 Jack Stern struck out on his own to form Miles Petroleum located in Nassau County, NY. Only a few years later, in 1943, David Weber branched out and founded David Weber Oil Co. located in Hightstown, NJ. Over the next several decades both Jack Stern and David Weber expanded their companies. David concentrated on supplying high quality agricultural lubricants to the farming industry in Central Jersey while Jack Stern serviced the booming aircraft industry in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

In 1965 Morton Stern took over the leadership of Miles and continued its growth and expansion. In 1992, with the passing of her husband Morton, Angela Stern became President and CEO and continues to be involved in company operations. Miles Petroleum excels in blending metalworking fluids, compressor oils, and other specialty products.

In 1973, David was joined by his son Bennett Weber and the operations were expanded and moved to their current location in Carlstadt, NJ. David and Bennett continued to grow the business until David’s passing in 2000. Currently, David Weber Oil Co. is operated by Bennett and his son, Noel, the fourth Weber generation in the lubricants business. Their service area covers NJ/NY/CT/DE/PA and products include DEF, antifreeze, metalworking fluids, hydraulic fluids, gear lubes, engine oils and other industrial and specialty lubricants. The Gibraltar brand of industrial and commercial lubricants has grown to be one of the most respected in the industry.

Noel Weber, Vice President and Owner commented, “Miles Petroleum’s product portfolio and customer base was very similar to our own. That, in addition to our founders’ shared history, made it a natural fit. We’re very excited about building on Miles’ dedicated level of service and complementing it with our unique product offerings and customer commitment.”
