CFL Acquires Mathisen Oil, A Leading Distributor in the Inland Empire

California Fuels and Lubricants (CFL) executed the purchase of Mathisen Oil in Fontana, CA. Mathisen Oil has been a recognized provider of commercial fuels and lubricants in the Inland Empire since 1965. Founded in 2004, CFL is a leading California supplier of fuels and lubricants in both the commercial and marine markets. CFL is also a principal distributor for Shell Lubricants and was recently made the primary Shell Marine distributor in California. Operating out of seven facilities, CFL service covers the entire State of California and Las Vegas.

Former owner, Jim Mathisen, will assist CFL in an orderly transition, which will focus on maintaining service excellence and product availability. The move comes after months of discussions between CFL and Mathison Oil. “Jim Mathisen was devising his exit strategy, but it was most important that he find the right culture to take it over. We (CFL) were looking for immediate paths to grow in the Inland Empire and with Mathison’s long history and reputation, it was a natural fit” said CFL Managing Director/owner, Jaime Duenas.

The company will continue to operate out of its historic Fontana facility. CFL will consolidate its Riverside operations into the Mathisen plant. “We have identified the Inland Empire as a core, strategic commercial market, and the Mathisen business will serve as the base for our aggressive growth plans,” said CFL President, Chuck McDaniel.
